DSI Faculty Leadership Team

Dr. Tucker leads a team of faculty leaders representing the colleges of Business, Engineering and Liberal Arts in defining the DSI curriculum, enrolling companies and non-profits to sponsor student projects and shaping the multidisciplinary student experience. Dr. Tucker is also a Professor in the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. Her research interests lie in the areas of engineering education and degradation of materials in extreme environments. She has supported 26 successful research proposals, 19 as lead-PI (including an NSF CAREER), totaling $15M+ in research funding.
Dr. Udell is a seasoned champion for hands-on transdisciplinary curriculum and research, which is reflected in his passions and career. His PhD in Music Composition with Electrical Engineering, and direction of the Oregon State Openly Published Environmental Sensing research lab has enabled him to synthesize innovations and engage students across many disciplines including: electrical engineering, music, computer science, arts, mechanical engineering, environmental science, robotics, hydrology, physics and more. Udell coordinates projects and programs, serving as a design mentor for some of the DSI initiatives.

Dr. Stone’s research interests include design theories and methodologies, specifically product architectures, functional representations, automated conceptual design techniques and innovation strategies for new product design.
Dr. Nordica MacCarty is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University where she is on the leadership teams of the Humanitarian Engineering and Engineering Design for Society programs. Her research is focused on an interdisciplinary approach to the user-centered design and evaluation of clean energy technologies. Many of her graduate students earn dual degrees in mechanical engineering and applied anthropology. She serves as Associate Editor for the journal Energy for Sustainable Development, is faculty co-advisor for OSU’s Engineers Without Borders chapter, and is Executive Director for the non-profit Aprovecho Research Center.

Alina channels her passion for digital media through education, community outreach, and the production of quality multimedia for individuals, communities, nonprofits, LEAs, and small businesses. For her, social responsibility, creativity, intention, and dedication are central to successful multimedia production, which has become her guiding mantra and the foundation of her digital media journey—one she is eager to share with others.
Dr. Gerasymenko’s research explores explores the intersection of new technologies, such as generative artificial intelligence (AI), and student learning outcomes, particularly in fostering creative thinking, social impact, and entrepreneurial orientation. She teaches entrepreneurship, creativity, and innovation-related courses at OSU to undergraduate and graduate students in person and via Ecampus. Before joining academia, Dr. Gerasymenko was involved in several startup businesses and worked in one of the major venture capital firms in Paris, France. She is regularly invited to be part of startup competition juries and is a passionate coach of entrepreneurial ventures.

We welcome project ideas from communities (including OSU), not-for-profits, and industry that are authentic and with implications for the betterment of people and society.
